Let's explore the place you find yourself and chart a new path forward.
I believe in the power of relationship as a powerful tool for healing. There is no perfect relationship. In fact, renowned relationship researchers at the Gottman institute have discovered in their research that "69% of relationship conflict is about perpetual problems" In other words, about 31% of conflict has a direct solution and about 69% of conflict in a relationship is due to fundamental differences in worldview and/or personality and those problems can be managed but are unlikely to have an easy solution. Using our voices in ways in which our loved ones can hear us allows us to make relational change and to deesacalate conflict that arises from perpetual problems.
Utilizing tools from a wide variety of sources including the Gottman's research on couple relationships, Brené Brown's research into shame and vulnerability and Kristen Neff's research into self compassion, as well as tools from systemically based family therapy, I can teach you to communicate with your partner, or your Mom, or your Dad, or your BFF or your boss in ways that fundamentally change and improve your relationships and/or your boundaries with folks who are unable to be emotionally healthy themselves. I believe in this work. There is no doing relationships perfectly but we can do better and we can learn to make relational repair when we mess up.
I am a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator. The Daring Way™ is an empirically based training and certification program for helping professionals based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. The method was developed to help men, women, and adolescents learn how to show up, be seen, and live braver lives. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing a courage practice that transforms the way we live, love, parent, and lead. It can be facilitated in clinical, educational, and professional settings and is suitable for work with individuals, couples, families, work teams, and organizational leaders. I'd love to share the empowering truths offered in this research and explore how they can be transformative specifically for you!
I have also completed an intensive training course in Postpartum Depression conducted by Karen Kleiman, co-author of the book, "This Isn't What I Expected" and director of the Postpartum Stress Center.
Additionally, I have had the opportunity to work extensively with clients experiencing depression and anxiety related to specific life circumstances and transitions such as new careers, coping with chronic illness, divorce, step parenting, parenting teens and parenting while becoming a care giver for your parents! I am LGBTQIA + affirming and love working with queer couples.
*Please note - I am Covid Cautious and prioritize protecting vulnerable members of our community, including a member of my household. I see vaccinated and boosted clients in the office at this time but sometimes choose to mask dependent on numbers in our area. I am available to all clients in Oklahoma via telehealth!
